The Marcel Trophy
This is an event not to be missed! Every winter, towards the end of the season, club members congregate at a Swiss (and on occasion even a French) ski resort for the traditional Marcel Trophy. This memorable meet-up, established more than 30 years ago by Marcel Pasche, the co-founder of SCIJ, gives journalists a chance to engage in friendly competition in a giant slalom.
The Marcel Trophy is the highlight of the winter season, although some prefer the spring ski-tour. The competition has an original Swiss touch – it is above all an opportunity for members to pit themselves against one another without taking it all too seriously. The level of competition is such that a little modesty is called for… Initially, the Marcel Trophy was an original mix of cross-country and giant slalom races, leading to a combined score. For organizational reasons, the cross-country clash was dropped in favour of a weekend of cross-country skiing in the Jura mountain area.
The Marcel Trophy has been held at the following ski resorts over the years: Morgins, Champéry, Les Diablerets, La Lenk, Grindelwald, Crans-Montana, Vercorin, Anzère, Meiringen-Hasliberg, Engelberg, St-Gervais (Haute-Savoie), Ovronnaz, La Fouly.
